boot garters

What are they good for?

supposedly they keep your breeches from riding up your legs, i just think they look nice, don't know why.

I see. Probably they were phased out as breeches now reach down to the ankle.

Helps give that bondage look to the boots

Indeed that's correct; originally breeches had no stretch in them at all until the modern materials of lycra (and the such) were introduced which helped them from riding up on the leg. Since nearly all breeches made these days all are able to stretch, the need for garters has passed and so they're no longer fitted on boots anymore. I admit that I like the look of them myself - gives them that extra detail which completes everything for me.

The ones that reach down to the ankle are called Jodphurs - breeches have the velcro (or button - old style) for closure around the lower calf.

excellent well informed banter, i now stand educated on the subject of boot garters, and still love them.
